Name:       Steph Borklund
Title:          Lead Editor - Post Production

Can you please tell us a little bit about your background, (i.e., where you were born, where you went to school, family history)?

I was born and raised in a small town in Kansas (Independence, Kansas).  The best part about growing up in Independence was having my best friend, my grandma, 30 minutes away in Parsons, Kansas.

I went to multiple colleges and finally settled on and graduated from the University of Kansas.  Rock Chalk Jayhawk!  From there, I spent 2 years in Savannah, Georgia getting my Master of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

I had always wanted to move to San Francisco when I was a kid.  I thought “now or never” when I graduated from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design).  So I packed up my truck and away we (my dog Bud and I) went.  I was fortunate to have family in Livermore, California (East Bay) and I’ve been here ever since (7 years)!  By the way, I still have my truck and Bud turned 18 yrs old this year in January.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Everything!  The challenge of new projects, being in the editing room putting together the puzzle in front of me, being on the set with the cast and crew, and being surrounded by Left Coast’s creative team!

How did you get hooked up with Left Coast Productions and Barbara Murray?

By the grace of God!

I was doing an editing internship for Destination Diving in Pleasanton, California, when Barbara Murray came in to do some post production with my mentor, Chris Cusimano.  We chatted about growing up in small towns (me – Kansas – Barbara – West Virginia) and how much fun it was working in video production.  I had interned with Destination Diving for about a year and a half and had the pleasure of meeting her 2 or 3 times during my tenure there.

When “The Murray’s” business was starting to grow to more than she could handle by herself, she contacted Chris to find out if he thought I might be interested in working for her part-time.  Clearly, she thought, if this Bozo was willing to work for free for a year and a half; she’d come work for me.  She was right!!!  It will be 5 years with her in November 2008.  It’s not only been the best 5 years of my life; I’m actually getting paid for what I do!!  What a novel concept.
